The breadfruit analogy Everything is indeed a lesson. Nature uses everything to teach us lessons, we only have to pay attention.
We glean our lessons from everything, we do not wait until we make all the mistakes. Why make it all when we can learn? Of course it is essential to make mistakes sometimes and allow the first hand experience to guide us to make better decisions. But today, the breadfruit has a lesson for us.
There is an Igbo proverb, “ukwa ruo oge ya, odaa”.
This means when the breadfruit is ripe, it falls.
The breadfruit is a staple food in the south east of Nigeria. It can be used for various amazing dishes.
The lesson from the breadfruit is that we should be patient because when the time for what it is time for comes, it will happen.
Life is in stages and this is a very important principle that we should be aware of when we are making progress and going towards our goals in life.
1. Trust the process and do not rush things: When you are going through the preparation and the hardships that come with the birth of success, you should be patient and trust that everything is happening for your good. Do not be fazed by the wait. Remember that when the breadfruit is ripe, it will inevitably fall. Don’t worry about the speed of others or the shiny success they may try to rub in your face. Keep working, keep trusting and keep praying because as long as you don’t give up, your breakthrough is inevitable.
2. Premature success sucks: When the breadfruit is plucked prematurely without allowing it to ripen and fall, it would not be as good as when it is allowed to mature and ripen. When you try to go ahead of yourself without first trying to ground yourself in the knowledge that you are supposed to know, then you are setting yourself up for failure.
While you wait, there are things you should be doing, you should be developing yourself personally, spiritually and otherwise. Take that course, invest in that book, exercise, eat better. Your time will surely come .
Fast success only lasts as fast as it comes.
