HOW TO DEAL WITH BODY SHAMING – Body shaming can be a very negative effect on the human performance which must be dealt with – here’s how.

  • Self love: When you love yourself enough and know yourself well enough, you do not allow negative criticism and comments to rip your self esteem and tear you down. People who brutally shame people have a serious issue with themselves that they need to deal with but they are just projecting these insecurities on you.
  • Acceptance: Accepting who you are and where you currently are will give you peace and therefore, you have more energy to deal with other things. Accepting where you are while currently working towards where you want to be will help you give less focus to body shamers.
  • Work on your emotional triggers: Some things, people or even environments can trigger you to begin to feel shame or guilt for your body; things like magazines that portray the opposite of your looks or even environments that you do not feel natural in.
  • Ignore them: When you ignore them, they have no power over you. They only have that much power over you when you give them your time and energy and listen to all their rants and negativity concerning your body. Ignore them and go ahead to live the amazing life you have.
  • If it’s a friend, call them out: Now, when strangers body shame you, it may not hurt as much as when a close friend does it. Your friend should encourage you or correct you nicely but body shaming from a friend should not be tolerated. Call them out as soon as they start to shame you.
  • Distance yourself from them: When you have a friend that body shames you and constantly puts you down, then you have to distance yourself from those kinds of friends so that you have peace of mind and live your life.
  • Reevaluate your values: Does your value lie in your looks rather than on the “you”? The real you and what you have to offer. Reevaluate your values and what it is that you really want out of this life and work towards it but don’t forget to balance everything.Set priorities and understand what comes first in your life.
  • Practice your response ahead of time: Sometimes, you have to have answers for your body shamers. A good reasonable answer that will have them thinking. This response doesn’t have to be violent but it has to be firm.
  • Talk to someone you trust: Talking is therapy and when you talk to a trusted person that you are secure with, you get something therapeutic in return that will calm your nerves and keep you in the right perspective.
  • Work on yourself: Sometimes, your weight or your underweight can have an adverse effect on your health and now this is the time to work on it and have more energy to work on your dreams and the things that you care about.
