Here are 20 things to do before college to make your stay better and more fun!

Save up money for a rainy day:

Have a substantial amount of savings before getting into college. Work odd jobs, do things, start a side hustle and so on. Save up enough money to fund your adventures in college.

Learn a skill:

Learning a useful skill before getting into college will serve you well especially in this age that a college degree is not the be all, end all. Learn a digital skill and put her heart into it. It is advisable to learn something related to your passion or field of choice.

Learn to swim:

If you are getting into college without any idea on how to swim then you are taking a risk. Learning how to swim is important because you do not know when it would come in handy to you.

Learn social skills:

learn how to socialize with others. A friend you would make there could be a major factor that would determine how far you would go. Don’t forget to vet your friends and to choose who you associate with wisely but indeed, your friends will either make you or mar you.

Master discipline:

Master discipline. Learn how to control yourself and be disciplined. Discipline will take you a long way. You must learn how to do things even when you do not feel like doing it. Discipline is a common attribute of success.

Spend time with family:

Remember that you would soon be getting into college, and you would no longer be close to your family as much especially if you are going far away from them so use this opportunity before college to bond with them.

Have  a grasp of what you would be studying in college:

Have a good grasp or a good understanding of what it is that you are going to be studying in college. Do not enter college with little or no clue of what it is that you are going there to study. Funny as it may sound, some people go into college with very little knowledge of what they are going there to study.

Master waking early:

Waking up early will help you to get a lot more done than one who sleeps in till 11 a.m. Begin to learn how to wake up earlier if you don’t already know how to do so. An alarm clock will also be of help.

Improve your reading skills:

Improve your speed reading skills. This will help you cover a lot more in college. Learn different effective methods of reading such as using pictures, flashcards, audio and so on. All these will help your memory.

Start early to network:

Begin early to make important network connections that would be beneficial to you down the line. Reach out to those people that you are looking up to and connect with them. These are relationships that you should hold dear to you as they have the potential of changing your life

Get to know all you can about the college:

When was the college built? Why was it built? Was the reason it was built worth it to you? Find out as much as you can about the college you are about to enter.

Live on campus at least in your first year:

Some students would prefer to stay off campus; that is, renting an apartment close to college rather than living in the college dormitories. It would be a good idea to actually stay in the college dorm for some time, at least your first year. The experience will do you good and what’s the harm anyway?

Learn tolerance:

Learn to be able to live in harmony with people that have a different kind of belief, culture, values as you. This is important because the college is a mixed place with different kinds of people there.

Determine to make great positive memories:

You only get to do this once so why not make the best use of it? Make good memories with friends because at the end of your stay, these are the things you will look back to.

Determine your goals:

it will be great and more advantageous to you if you determine your goals and the things you tend to achieve there even before you get to college. This will guide you on how to start and eventually finish well.

Learn a second language:

Learn a second language because it is fun and it would open up more doors of opportunity to you. You would be better able to communicate to a wider range of people now. Plus this is an achievement you would be proud of.

Learn to cook:

this may seem like something insignificant to you but it is important if you are to save yourself the money of always going out to eat. Learn it as though it were a luxury and you would enjoy it.

Improve your mind:

You should improve your mind and expand your general knowledge otherwise, if you go to college with a myopic mind, some regular things would surprise you.

Go for a medical check up:

Go for a medical check up to know if you have any underlying medical conditions that you should treat especially while in college. This will help you avoid unfortunate, unexpected health situations that may take you by surprise.

Be yourself:

This is the last but not the least point here. Be yourself, do not try to be anyone else because you cannot be anyone else better than you can be yourself. Love yourself and embrace who you are.
